Arguing could be viewed as one of the most important intellectual activities of humans during their entire lives. People of all walks of life get involved in argumentation on a daily basis. But often when we are aware that we need arguments, we are in trouble (and often the lawyers are happy). In this talk we will present an introduction into the theory of argumentation and its potential application in practical reasoning. We will start with a light-hearted introduction to argumentation and practical reasoning in our daily lives. We then introduce the theory of argumentation where an argument system is viewed as a pair of a set of argument and a binary attack relation between arguments. The semantics of argumentation rests on the acceptability of arguments, their structure and attack relations. We present an axiomatic analysis of semantics of argumentation.
