This paper analyses the feasibility of extending the Radiated Two-Stage (RTS) MIMO OTA test method to demodulation and RF performance measurement for 5G BS and UE. It first introduces the concept of the Radiated Two-Stage (RTS) test method, which was first proposed to 3GPP in [1]. Based on the latest MIMO OTA harmonization results analysis [2] [3], 3GPP concluded that harmonization between MPAC and RTS for FDD can be confirmed [4] and incorporated by 3GPP in Technical Report 37.977 v14.5.0 [5]. The potential extension of the RTS method to active antenna systems and BS demodulation performance test was first covered in [6] and [7]. The proposal to apply the RTS method to mmWave NR UE demodulation performance test has been made in several papers [8] [9] [10] [11]. This paper will show some analysis of RTS extension from 2 Rx to 4 Rx for sub-6G UE MIMO OTA test, and multiple RF channel Tx radiated performance parallel measurement results based on the RTS concept @28GHz. This paper also analyses the limitations and advantages of applying RTS for mmWave BS and UE demodulation testing and proposes possible solutions to open issues.
