In this paper, higher-order mode excitation is used to achieve a high gain circularly polarized slot array cavity backed antenna. In the cavity, which is made by Gap waveguide pins, TE440 mode is simply excited by a coaxial probe. Also, a polarizing layer is designed which converts the linearly polarized radiation from the slots to circular polarization. The antenna exhibits a simulated gain of 17.8 dB and radiation efficiency of about 97% with good return loss. The simulated |S11| <; -10 dB 10dB is in the range of 27.1-28.4 GHz and the axial ratio bandwidth is about 9.5%. Furthermore, the antenna can be considered as an appropriate candidate for use in Future fifth generation (5G) wireless systems.
