This paper presented a pulse energy modulation (PEM) for power decoupling circuit that only contains an IGBT, a diode and an decoupling inductor. The power decoupling circuit uses the minimum number of power electronic devices compared with the prior art technologies. The operation modes and the PEM technique for the power decoupling circuit are described. The PEM technique controls the power decoupling circuit only through the energy conservation perspective, making the control scheme very simple and direct. The results showed that the proposed modulation technique successfully attenuates the second-order ripple current and has low THD and high output current quality.
