This paper analyzes the performance of turbo codes according to the specifications mentioned in Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) standards. Turbo encoding using different interleavers and decoding algorithms namely, Log-MAP and Max-Log-MAP are implemented and compared. The comparison of CCSDS based pseudo random interleaver with block interleaver is presented, which revealed that the former offers 4dB more coding gain than the latter. The impact of quantization of soft values on the performance of decoding is presented and analyzed. The performance of the decoding algorithms (Log-MAP, Max-Log-MAP) is analyzed with the number of iterations, which revealed that the performance improves with increase in number of iterations.
