This paper describes the narrow band (usually less than 100%) OMT design for Ku-band applications. This class of OMT is required low VSWR and high isolation within the operating band and low complexity of the physical structure. Due to this requirement, this paper proposes the design consideration for the different OMT design approach. Each of the approach has been considered based on the physical model of the OMT. The physical model has been divided into two different categories: circular type OMT and square type OMT along with that different taper transition of the common circular or square cross-section to the rectangular waveguide. It also describes, how the physical structure of OMT impacts on the performance (return loss, bandwidth, isolation and higher order-mode excitation).
