The dynamics of electromechanical oscillations in power system, be it damping or development with the corresponding magnitude decrease, is defined by the synchronous machines damping capabilities, which are, in turn, dependent upon machines control. It is proposed to utilize the concept of synchronous machine synchronizing power and its normalized aggregated estimate in order to detect improper controllers behavior based on its quantitative evaluation. A synchronous machine synchronizing power is derived from its load angle. The paper presents the detailed description of a method for evaluating a synchronous machine synchronization capability properties during electromechanical oscillations. Application of a synchronous machine synchronization capability properties evaluation based on its synchronizing power will allow to improve the power system controllability and timely detect the machines control system misoperation or fault.
