Technical-commercial management to increase the participation of micro and mini generation in the Brazilian energy sector

In the current Brazilian energy sector a lack of management for connecting distributed generation sources in distribution networks, especially mini and micro generation, can lead to several negative impacts on the quality of electrical energy supplied to the customers. The distribution energy companies are responsible for controlling and managing the distribution network in order to maintain the quality indices of power supplied. For that reason the distribution companies generally impose restrictions on any changes in their systems, including the connection of new distributed generation sources. According to the use of biogas derived from animal waste in Brazil electrical energy producers usually lose interest in investing on this type of source because they cannot recover investment costs and cover maintenance and operating costs. This paper presents an evaluation of this scenario from new perspectives concerning an strategic application of micro and mini generation. In addition it is considered the point of view of distribution companies and energy producers to maximize the benefits and minimize the uncertainty about the implementation of these sources.
