An investigation on magneto-aerodynamic interaction studies was carried out on flat-face cylindrical model in a free-piston driven hypersonic shock tunnel. The total drag force and stagnation-point heat transfer rate was measured using an accelerometer-based force balance measurement technique and Pt-based thin-film RTDs, respectively. Though the measurement of stagnation-point heat transfer rate showed the effect of magnetic field in the flow, the performance of Pt-based thin-film RTDs is questionable because of the sensor erosion and the presence of charged particles. Further experiments will be carried out on a flat-face rectangular model with additional diagnostics to observe the effect of magnetic field in the flow.
