Current trends in manufacturing and research into factories of the future aim to provide customers with products that are customizable. Customer involvement in the customization and overall quality of the product are key factors that could ultimately ensure customer satisfaction. The manufacturer needs to find the means to produce quality products timeously at low cost. This paper presents the development of an optimization algorithm for an inspection machine to provide quality assurance for customizable jigs and fixtures. The contribution of this paper is the methodology developed to perform quality assurance on items that are customizable and could re-enter the production environment. The algorithm selects features to inspect then assigns the data acquisition and validation to balanced threads.
