Lower quality and higher density crudes which contain higher sulfur, acids and other impurities have increased corrosion failures in petrochemical plants. This research describes the results of the testing and identifies the origin of the cracked of an API5LGr.X65 steel tube belonging to a crude oil pipeline in the Oil Industries in the Khuzestan Area of Iran. Results of the tests show that the using low quality of coatings, presence of primary defect and presences of daily varied corrosive agents (chlorides, and sulfidic compounds) are the main reasons of the failure of pipeline.
