Fear of using technology: Investigating impact of using social networking sites in business education

This study aims to explore how social networking sites impact on performance and satisfaction of students in a University setting. The study also determines the role of technophobia in hindering these effects. The study used a teaching case methodology to investigate the potential of Edmodo as a social networking site used in business education at a public sector university. The data obtained from the study was analyzed by using Hayes and Preacher bootstrapping method in SPSS 22. The hypotheses formulated in the study were accepted that SNS use in higher education enhances students' learning satisfaction and performance. The other hypothesis about moderating role of technophobia in reducing the effect of SNS use on learning performance was also accepted while its moderating role in reducing the effect of SNS use on learning satisfaction was not proved. It was concluded that using social networking sites in higher education provides a promising outcomes for learning; however, fear of technology among students may hinder this effect and thus, should be evaluated and dealt properly.
