With the advancement of technologies nowadays, real-time monitoring systems are becoming more popular in monitoring data conveniently, anytime and anywhere. However, most monitoring systems that have been developed only focus on the workability of the systems and do not consider the reliability of network performance during packet transmission. This paper presents our preliminary results of performance analysis for a real-time training monitoring system that is developed using customised TelG motes with XBee Pro and IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The proposed system is specifically designed to be implemented for cyclists training at the velodrome. The system is then evaluated in terms of packet delivery ratio using different network parameters. The performance analysis of the proposed system can serve as a basis to develop a real-time monitoring system to be utilised by cyclists at the velodrome.
