Source parameter estimation is an appealing research topic over decades in the field of array signal processing. The estimation performance of multidimensional parameter directly influences the effect of subsequent procedures, such as signal detection and filtering. In this paper we give a brief review of direction of arrival (DOA) and polarization parameter estimation methods. Based on a sensor array composed of diversely polarized antennas, polarization information of incident signals on the array is provided in accompany with spatial information. Moreover, the performance of DOA estimation is significantly improved with the aid of polarization. The paper considers several kinds of array configuration with different sensor location and polarization arrangement. A variety of existing DOA and polarization estimation algorithms are discussed with briefly, including the basic formulation, the principle and implement, the advantages and limitations. Furthermore, several open issues deserving further study are introduced in order to indicate probable research areas in the future.
