In this article, the routing of CR4, its user interface and performance figures are presented. CR4 is a computer network that connects simultaneously and in real-time multiple heterogeneous field buses and local area networks of all kinds. Via CR4, up to 4096 LANs, field buses, or arbitrary other communication means can be coupled transparently, and multiple data streams can be transferred without interfering with each other, and without requiring any preconditions at their sender sides. Additionally, isochronous, hard and anisochronous real-time transfers are supported by this backbone with a performance of up to 1.75 Gbps with a latency of at most 4155 ns in a four ring system, together with a maximum jitter of 1753 ns. Application areas for CR4 are seen in vehicles for land, sea, air and space, as well as in process, factory and building automation.
