The concept of frequency-dependent permeability is tracing back to various investigations in the last 60 years. Aim of the contribution is to review and discuss the basic modelling concepts beyond dynamic permeability and to compare modelling results derived from poroelasticity in the time-domain with well-known results in frequency-domain. We show that the basic sigmoidal character of dynamic permeability, i.e. a smooth transition from a viscous- to a inertia-dominated momentum coupling can be prescribed by classical poroelasticity. Results in dynamic permeability deviate only by a factor from the dynamic permeability function proposed by Johnson and coworkers.
