Optimal overlapping of TXOP for throughput fairness in densely deployed WLANs

Penetration of multimedia communications with mobile Wi-Fi and tethering requires wireless LANs (WLANs) to guarantee a specific bandwidth in densely deployed WLANs. IEEE802.11e (HCCA) with 802.11aa could use inefficiently radio frequency as well as fail to provide each WLAN with enough CFP period in which sending opportunity of a terminal is guaranteed. To guarantee a specific bandwidth even in densely deployed WLANs, we propose a novel control method for HCCA that can guarantee each contention free period (CFP) bandwidth according to a predetermined proportion in WLANs and achieve high throughput by exploiting capture effect. The proposed method estimates amounts of interferences between each pair of WLANs from distances between them and calculates optimal overlapping of CFPs of the WLANs. Performance evaluation results show that the proposed method can achieve both high efficiency in radio resource usage and guarantee in the specific bandwidth.
