Internet of Things (IoT) is a leading-edge technology that interconnects a vast number of devices with different applications. Varieties of applications of IoT in a heterogeneous environment demanda high processing capability, in turn creating a great demand of energy. IoT devices preferably rely on wireless medium of communication to maintain mobility, thereby relying on battery as the source of power. Green IoT is an emerging paradigm that proposes to solve the energy consumption issues of IoT in a sustainable environment. The proposed research work will systematically summarize the goals of Green IoT and investigate the challenges to achieve the Green IoT design goals. Further, this paper analyzes the existing energy solutions for Green IoT. Also, the proposed survey will classify and present the Green IoT energy solutions into two categories, one based on controlled energy consumption and the second one relying on energy harvesting from the ambient energy sources.
