From prediction to prevention: The transition away from MTBF

Today's product development environment requires innovation, increasing levels of reliability, faster times to market, and lower costs. A reliability engineering process that has transitioned away from prediction to one of prevention, and addresses all four goals, is described herein. Various forms of the process have been used for over two decades at United Technologies Corporation.
