A FEDERATED DATA DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM FOR ACCURATE, UPDATED, COINCIDENT DELIVERY OF PROGRAM METADATA TO END USER DEVICES

We introduce MetaPub, a metadata distributionsystem for public radio. MetaPub is a federatedclearinghouse for story level, time scheduled public mediametadata (text, images, links, and background information),supporting distribution to HD radio receivers, mobile radioapps, web streaming systems, and RDS. MetaPub isdesigned for the unique needs of public radio: breakingnews, story-telling, live performances, art, music, and othercultural programming. Currently, most delivery platformsfor public radio do not provide information beyond stationname, logo and the name of the program currently on air.MetaPub provides a framework for the next generation;gathering fine-grained per-story and per-piece metadatafrom existing producer databases, integrating local stationinformation, and distributing to metadata enabled devicesand radios.
