Traditionally, ordnance components in aerospace applications have relied on dynamics exposure at qualification levels as a workmanship screen in normal production. What is being proposed is a philosophical change, based on historical failure modes, to use an FMEA process to screen defects during manufacture instead of relying on elevated dynamics amplitudes to screen defects. Historically it has been seen that dynamics screening is not as effective as other environmental exposure in ordnance components such as thermal cycling or similar.
