Numerical and Field Study of Ship-generated Waves in Xicheng Canal, China

With the enhanced ship hydrodynamic in Xicheng Canal, the shipgeneratedwaves are the main factor inducing turbidity in the watercolumn and damages of the channel revetments. In this study, to clarifythe characteristics of ship-generated waves in Xicheng Canal, fieldobservations and numerical analysis were carried out. The fieldobservations were conducted at a straight section of Xin xiagang Riverand the ship-generated waves model is established based on depthaveraged non-linear shallow water (NLSW) equations. The water levelfluctuations at different wave gauges calculated by Delft3D-FLOWmodel agree fairly well with the observed data. Then, the relation amongmaximum non-dimensional ship-generated wave height, depth Froudenumber and blocking coefficient is established based on the validatedmodel.
