摘要

The oxygen reduction reaction, which takes place at the cathode electrode, is the limiting reaction of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). In order to overcome the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), high loadings of Pt group metals are used in the state-of-the-art PEMFCs, thus resulting in very expensive devices. In order to replace Pt in the cathode of PEMFCs, the use of non-precious metal catalyst (NPMC) with high activity for the ORR has been proposed.
