A field-usable analyzer is being/ develope'd to verify GTR~13 FCEV tailpipe exhaust emission requirements. Different probe designs and compensation p'rotocols are being explored toassure measurement accuracy. The analyzer is intended to provide national regulatory/agencies (e.g., DOT) a tool to, verify Jcompliance to a critical GTR l3 safety requirement, which is necessary to enforce compliance to trie GTR. Using a seqsor-lpased analyzer, a 10 to 20-fold cost savings is achieved when compared to a method based/upon laboratory instrumentation (e.g., MS). In(addition to regulators, the tailpipe emission monitor would be relevant to vehicle engineers to monitor and optimize fuer cell performance. Accordingly, the analyzer design and operation is being coordinated witl the U.S. DOT and with vehicle manufacturers through regular reviews(af the SAE Fuel Cell Safety Task-Force meetings.
