A novel position/speed sensorless vector control approach which is capable of not only driving Induction Motors (IMs), damperless surface/interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) and PMSMs with damper winding but also tuning all electrical motor parameters used for their sensorless control system design by a unified method is discussed. This approach is tentatively named the Universal Sensorless Vector (USV) control. In this paper a simple electrical motor parameter tuning method for the USV control by means of a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) inverter. The extra apparatus required for the conventional USV control become unnecessary. The proposed tuning method is implemented on a 0.33-kW IM and a 0.3-kW PMSM. Experimental results demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.
