With continuous loads growth, the best utilization of electric power systems is very significant, because of the increased construction and development costs of electric power networks, alleviation of some serious problems such as increasing power losses, poor voltage profile, power quality improvement, voltage instability, and system reliability. To avoid such problems, distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) can be used in the radial distribution system (RDS) as a shunt compensating unit. In this paper, an efficient hybrid analytical-coyote optimization technique (COA) is proposed to calculate optimal location and sizing of DSTATCOM, where the main objective is to improve the voltage profiles and minimizing active power losses considering the operational constraints. The analytical technique is used to determine the proper sizes of DSTATCOMs, while the COA is used to specify the locations into RDS. The IEEE 33-bus and 69-bus are used to validate the powerful and the efficacy of the proposed hybrid method. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed hybrid analytical-COA is more efficient in compensating sufficient reactive power to decrease the active power loss compared with other existing techniques.
