Fractional slot concentrated wound-interior permanent magnet synchronous generators (FSCW IPMSG) have potential for wind power generation application because of their high power density, high efficiency, compactness and low cogging torque. This paper evaluates the dynamic performances of a FSCW IPMSG when operated below and over the rated speed. The existing vector current control strategy developed based on distributed-wound PM machine was found to be sufficient for this evaluation. It was found that introduction of decoupling voltage compensation improves the current response at the above rated speed operation. The experimental validation was carried out using a 4 kW prototype FSCW IPMSG, which was driven by a maximum power point tracking wind turbine emulator.
