Based on physics laws, overhead lines parameters of the Bulgarian transmission grid, weather and electrical historical data, the main correlations between weather conditions and corona losses are detected. Corona losses are defined by weighting factors for different weather conditions of twelve typical Bulgarian meteorological regions presenting parts of entire transmission grid. A forecasting model based on a statistical approach concerning hourly corona losses is tested and proposed in order to decrease the imbalances costs of Bulgarian transmission system operator.
