A novel on-load de-icing method for distribution lines

摘要

A novel on-load de-icing method for distribution lines is proposed. The heating current is achieved by lowering the working voltage of the distribution line. A pair of wide-range on-load tap changer transformers is adopted to ensure power delivery and to avoid voltage fluctuation during the process of de-icing. Reactive power compensation is adopted to support the system voltage. Operating status under different situations is analysed based on the prototype system using Bergeron model of transmission lines. The effectiveness of the method is verified by software simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC. Application situation is discussed.
