Multicast transmission issues in wireless networks based on IEEE 802.11 standards are rare discussed topic in modern scientific and professional literature. Despite this fact, it is common method of frames transmission and at the same time, good place for optimization in wireless networks. Similarly to multicast common usage in wired networks usually based on Ethernet standards, multicast in wireless networks started to be favorite too. Longer list of protocols, especially dynamic routing protocols, could be mentioned as an example of multicast communication in wireless networks. Multicast is actually nature element of their functionality. Nowadays, it is not possible even imagine effective network routing without them. However, dynamic routing protocols, working in optimized wired environment, exist in not so optimized wireless environment and need appropriate optimization (configuration steps) at lower network levels. It means, there needs to exist specific optimization of network behavior connected with no so well-known multicast issues at various ISO OSI layers. The following article illustrate some consequences of transmission in non-optimized environment and demonstrate kind of optimization in OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) routing protocol.
