The paper describes the application of an innovative technology (MUMS) in the active landslide of Tiedoli, located in the province of Parma. The aim is to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the system with the comparison between the classic instruments. Using the available data of rain and water level, this paper underlines the strict correlation between these physical entities and soil displacements. The paper highlights how to use a large database of collected data and a statistical approach for the analysis of reliability, understanding the effects of spurious interference related to temperature variations or to unexpected mechanical stresses acting on the nodes. The information obtained made it possible to study the daily time evolution of the phenomenon, focusing in particular on average speed of the landslide body. The achieved knowledge permits a real time control and the system become an alarm-triggering device able to activate the appropriate emergency procedures.
