Metadata development for ethnophytomedicine resources using metadata analysis approach

This paper present recommendation of metadata element set for ethnophytomedicine resources from scientific journal publication to support the sharing and reuse among stakeholders. Ethnophytomedicine itself is traditional knowledge of local people about use of native medicinal plant. Development of metadata has been through utilizing four approaches, i.e. domain-analysis, derivation analysis, system-centric analysis, usercentric analysis and resource-centric analysis. To complete domain-analysis, we analyzed result of interview with two experts and documents that describe and review of ethnophytomedicine. In derivation analysis, the candidate elements derived from three existing related metadata standards. Moreover, to gather candidate elements in user-centric analysis, we interview the identified stakeholders of ethnophytomedicine resources. In system-centric analysis, we explored 11 systems related to ethnophytomedicine domain. The last phase, all candidate elements from derivation analysis, system-centric analysis and user-centric analysis were mapped into available information on ethnophytomedicine resources. Based on resource-centric analysis as last phase of research, we found 26 metadata elements for ethnophytomedicine resources that divided into four major sections, i.e. literature, plant, plant utilization and knowledge source.
