Regular expression has developed a lot since it was invented in 1950s. There are many application scenarios fitting to use regular expression, like string search, string match and so on. The reason why it is so popular is that regular expression has a powerful processing capability to deal with undecided format string. When it comes to advertisements filtration, the regular expression can work well due to the undecided format of URL (Uniform Resource Locator). In this paper, we study the fundamental algorithms of regex engine, then applicate regular expressions in advertisements filtration. In order to get a higher matching rate, we need to feed the regular match engine with a certain number of expressions. In this paper, we will study the performance of different regular matching libraries used in the scenery of advertisements filtration. This will be a basis to choose a proper regex library for other similar sceneries.
