As all know, the increasing of filth on the Composite insulator bushing will lead to drop the hydrophobicity and insulating properties of the bushing. According to the relationship between the degree of the filth on the composite insulator bushing and the hydrophobicity, we can use hydrophobicity detection to react the extent of the filth on the bushing. This paper using digital image processing technology to process the collected droplet photo of the composite insulator bushing, and then extract the four characteristic values from the processed photo. This study inputs 420 groups of samples to the Multilayer Perceptron Neural Network (MLP) model for training, and the MLP is improved, the detection effect compared MLP with the improved MLP by 210 test samples, it shows that the improved MLP accuracy is higher, which can be better used in the detection of composite insulator bushing hydrophobic and can reflect the degree of the filth on the composite insulator bushing better. The study of the paper has important significance on the clean-up of composite insulator bushing.
