On the basis of the coherent concept a decomposition of the polarimetric scattering matrix of a radar remote sensing object is performed. With the usage of the complex numbers mathematics a scattering operator that compactly describes transformation of the backscattered signal polarization is received. The expressions for invariant polarization transfer functions that separately describe transformations of ellipticity and orientation of the sensing signal at its backscattering by a remote sensing object are derived. On the basis of experimental data it is shown that the suggested polarization transfer functions may be used for classification and recognition of the remote sensing objects.
