High power generating system delivers three-wire DC voltage (bi-polar system) dedicated to DC microgrid. An internal combustion engine in wide speed range drives a six phase permanent magnet generator producing variable frequency and amplitude voltage. The engine operates in high efficiency region. The generator's high frequency voltage is rectified. In the new developed generating system a boost rectifier draws sinusoidal current from the permanent magnet generator and stabilizes output DC voltages. The boost rectifier produces two symmetrical DC voltages - positive and negative referenced to a zero potential. The system topology provides stiff zero potential that is very advantageous in DC/AC conversion producing multiphase AC sinusoidal voltage. The boost rectifier is very robust and represents high short circuit current. Moreover, the generating set is equipped in balancer that in case of asymmetrical load keeps zero current in the neutral wire. It is also equipped in energy storage system, connected in parallel to the DC voltages to stabilize them in case of load change. Computer calculations of the 1224 kW (1950 rpm) generating system confirms general performance of the generation system.
