As the capacity of the wind farm is being increasing, the grid-connected stability problems caused by reactive power and voltage fluctuation cannot be ignored, one effective solution is to adopt the automatic voltage control system (AVCS) in the wind farm. This paper briefly describes the structure and control strategy of AVCS, and introduces an operation scheme for AVCS including the voltage control and reactive power regulation principles. Especially, communication modes of AVCS are introduced. The proposed operation scheme can regulate the voltage of the bus within the scope of dispatching requirements in the wind farm. Also, it can flexibly coordinate the output reactive power of every wind turbine generator and reactive power compensation device in the wind farm. Finally, this paper evaluates the control effect and dynamic response characteristic of the AVCS by the field test, the effectiveness of the proposed operation scheme is verified.
