Considering its importance as the crucial part of any current ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless system, the UWB patch antennas technology is attracted much attention of large number of researchers. In this paper, a novel miniaturized circular patch antenna is designed and evaluated by a comparison study with previous similar structures. Simulation and optimization of a proposed circular microstrip antenna are carried out using the CST Microwave Studio. The effect of the excitation technology and the dimensions of the ground plane (GP) are studied. It is found that the GP position and the feeding technique can totally modify the operating frequency and the antenna radiation behavior. The results are general and can be used to investigate other scattering and antenna problems involving patch geometries.
