This paper presents two designs for a single phase, voltage source inverters using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control with different frequency modulation values and compares between them. One design adopted a triangular carrier signal that is 250 times faster than the reference, i.e. with frequency modulation factor of 250, and the other design demonstrated a carrier signal with frequency modulation factor of 500. Both designs were simulated using Matlab Simulink and implemented in hardware then compared in terms of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), efficiency, speed and size.
