A Fast TDOA Estimation Algorithm for UAV Signals

The time difference of arrival (TDOA) is a key parameter of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) detection and location. The accuracy of TDOA estimation directly affects the positioning and tracking performance of UAV. In this paper, a fast and fine TDOA estimation algorithm based on Fourier transform (FFT) and quadratic interpolation is proposed for the commonly used orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology in UAV. The algorithm firstly obtains the cross-power spectrum of two received signals. And crosscorrelation function is obtained by inverse Fourier transform of cross power spectrum. Compared with the traditional crosscorrelation function, the computational cost of this algorithm is less. Secondly, take the time difference corresponding to the maximum value of the cross-correlation function based on FFT as the initial value, and finally use quadratic interpolation to improve the accuracy of TDOA. The simulation results show that both the estimation accuracy and the computational complexity of the proposed algorithm are superior.
