This paper will present a case study of a systemrecently installed for a major television network. Therequirement was to monitor the operation of and exercisecontrol over 19 ATSC transmitters at 11 different physicalsites across 8 markets. The time frame for installation wasvery short, and there was a requirement that this new controlsystem could not interfere with existing remote controlsolutions that were already installed at most of the sites. Allof the information and controls was to be available to acentral Master Control room in Atlanta. In order to meetthese requirements, the solution employs the SimpleNetwork Management Protocol (SNMP), for both thetransmitter controls and the sharing of information with theMaster Control room in Atlanta. This paper will explore thedetails on how this protocol was deployed, and the otherequipment and software used to implement the final system.
