NHK is developing 8K Super Hi-Vision as thenext generation of television. In particular, Super Hi-VisionMultimedia Broadcasting is currently being standardized forthe test services planned to begin in 2016. The system isbased on “Hybridcast”, which NHK launched in 2013, andit can provide various services over broadband Internet inaddition to broadcast. The system takes advantage of thelarge screen and high definition of 8K Super Hi-Vision toprovide high-quality services such as presenting multiplewindows and extensive textual information. The system usesHTML5 as a data coding method for easy integration intoInternet services. MPEG Media Transport (MMT) is thetransport scheme, and it facilitates hybrid delivery usingbroadcasting and broadband networks. This report outlinesthe multimedia services of 8K Super Hi-Vision satellitebroadcasting, a reference model for the television receiver,and multimedia broadcast systems.
