Sense and Respond? Why Not Predict and Prevent?

Mainframe monitoring does a great job of collecting and displaying system performance data. The weakest link for every monitor is the lack of accurate alerts. Monitors generate too many false positives and miss too many actual performance issues for their alerts to be blindly relied on. Pretty much everyone agrees that monitoring alerts are inaccurate (#monitoringsucks) and are considered merely as a guideline to operations.
