A brushless and exciterless, self-excited three-phase synchronous generator having an armature winding supplied with DC exciting current from a voltage-current transformer
Principles are described together with analytical and experimental studies of a brushless and exciterless, self-excited, three-phase synchronous generator. It is shown how the iron core for the magnetic circuit can be used both for the synchronous generator itself and for the exciter. A 1.5 kW, four-pole machine was used as a testing generator. It was found from the testing result that the load terminal voltage can be kept constant by the selection of the numbers of turns of the transformer in spite of the load variation, in a resistive load. It is also confirmed that the load terminal voltage wave can be a sinusoidal one. It is not necessary to provide brushes and an exciter for this generator. As the maintenance is easy in this case, it can be concluded that such a generator can be suitably used, for example, in a ship.
