New concept for ONU amplified ODN and demonstration of 80 Gbit/s TWDM-PON with 44 km reach and 512 split

We propose remote amplification by reusing optical amplifiers in the ONU as in-line amplifiers in a power line independent switched splitter and show that the budget can be substantially increased compared to an unamplified ODN.
