A COMPACT LOW COST PV OFF-GRID WATER STERILIZER

Every year thousands of people die by diseases caused by contaminated water. UV radiation can provide an effective disinfection system for water microbial purification. We present a low cost PV operated system that can work in regions without electricity access, providing almost 6 hours of operation, which represents more than 6 m~3 of treated water. The test results show that the system is effective in sterilizing water since it eliminated between 97% and 99% of the existing coliform and E. coli bacteria.
