A simply supported, curved PSC bridge with straight I-girderschorded between supports was subjected to a suite ofhorizontal and vertical ground motions covering a wide rangeof peak ground accelerations (PGAs). Along with analyzingthe seismic response of the curved bridge, the same bridge isequipped with Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) components toreduce seismic vulnerability and the results are compared.The SMA components used include dowels in the bearingpad, vertical restraints connecting the girders to theabutments, and cast-in-place piles with SMA reinforcement.
