Viaduct Léon Blum becomes a symbol of the urban development of Poitiers, France

The Léon Blum Viaduct spans over a large high speed rail station and the river valley running through the centerof Poitiers. The design consists of a 310 meter long semi-Vierendeel composite truss, divided into 5 spans. Ofcritical importance for the design was the integration into the city surroundings and the railway platforms. Thetruss system superstructure is continuous with the bridge piers. One perceives a cohesive structure tubularstructure emerging from the footings.
