A series of exploratory measurements were conducted in the Vertical Shock Tube at Los Alamos National Laboratory. A multi-mode interface was generated as the initial condition. The scale content on this interface was characterized with POD analysis, which evidenced the wide range of coherent structures present in the flow. This multi-mode interface was shocked with a M= 1.2 shock wave. After 3 285 μs of this interaction, simultaneous measurements of velocity and density were conducted using particle image velocimetry and planar laser induced fluorescence respectively. At this point the interface appears to have increased its small-scale content, but more data is necessary to assess this observation based on a statistically representative data set.
