This paper describes the physical mechanism of noise generation from an isothermal, subsonic, circular turbulent jet interacting with a parallel flat plate, which is located above the jet. The incident hydrodynamic pressure from the jet convects along the plate and is scattered at the trailing edge. The resulting acoustic waves are then propagated to the far-field. A theoretical expression for the hydrodynamic near-field wall pressure on the plate is derived in terms of jet turbulence values using Wiener-Hopf method for a static ambient flow problem. The far-field acoustic power spectra density (PSD) is then calculated using a modification of Amiet's trailing edge model.
